Organising the Pantry

by on Mar.15, 2012, under DIY, Woodwork

As part of an ever growing need to organise and recycle, My wife and I have undergone a simple project with some used wine boxes originally destined for the rubbish. With a few small modifications, namely a strip of blackboard paint and a touch of elbow grease we’ve been able to achieve all this and more.

Parts:

  • Old Wine Boxes
  • Blackboard Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Mineral Turpentine (for cleanup of the brushes)
  • Sandpaper
  • Masking Tape
  • Chalk

Method:

After sanding all the rough edges out of the boxes, Create an area using masking tape for the blackboard paint. We simply used the width of the masking tape from the edges of the boxes to create the area we needed.

Using a flat edged tool, like an old knife, stir the blackboard paint until mixed thoroughly. Then go crazy painting within the area you previously marked out with masking tape. Because we were painting directly onto raw wood, we needed to apply a few coats to reach the finish we were after. Make sure to apply as many coats as you need.

Once fully dried, remove the masking tape and voilà, the drawers are ready to be used!
