A momentary lapse into procrastination lead me to stumble upon the Map of Metal. It isnt a map in any traditional sense, but rather a fantastic and interactive visualisation of the genres and sub-genres (they’re classified here as “primary genre,” “metal genre,” “fusion genre,” and “related genre,” which each category getting its legend for easy use) of metal.
Whilst ‘travelling’ around the map, there are explanations offered and examples provided that you can listen to. All this is wrapped up into a fantastic interface designed by Patrick Galbraith.
